Besides the Cornish Pirates playing London Scottish at home in the Championship Cup on Saturday, 45 enthusiastic Cornish under 9s and under 10s rugby players also took part in a highly enjoyable Coaching Clinic at the Mennaye.
The sell-out Clinic day started with the youngsters firstly participating in a ‘Q&A’ session with Cornish Pirates players Shae Tucker and Nicolas De Battista, and then benefitting from taking part in a highly productive and enjoyable coaching session. They also formed the Guard of Honour when the Cornish Pirates and London Scottish ran out ahead of kick-off.
Dan Piper, parent and Coach from Newquay Hornets under 10s commented:
Everyone had a really great time. Our players learnt loads in the coaching session and were literally chatting about the whole match day experience throughout the hour drive home.
For two of the young rugby players, Jenson and Isaac, the day was extra special, as having displayed rugby’s core values they were chosen to be match day mascots who accompanied Cornish Pirates’ captain Brett Beukeboom and player Alex O’Meara onto the pitch.
The next Coaching Clinic sessions are scheduled for:
Sunday 22nd March – when the Cornish Pirates will again welcome London Scottish to the Mennaye Field. To allow age group related contact, the clinic is open to U11/12 and 13s.
Sunday 3rd May – when the Cornish Pirates will be playing Coventry. For that day the clinic is open to all U8s-U13s.
