The Pirates kicked of their B&I cup campaign with a hard fought victory over Connacht Eagles at the Galway Sports Ground. Tries from Simmonds, Lee & Parker were topped off with points from May’s boot.

They enjoyed dominance in the scrum & put in a very good defensive effort in blustery conditions that saw a mix of sunshine, strong winds and heavy rain at times.

Two first half tries from Sam Simmonds and Dan Lee were matched by a converted try and penalty from Connacht to make the scores level at half time. 2 second half penalties from Laurence May and a Jake Parker try converted by May secured the win in spite of some late pressure from the hosts.

In spite of the distance, the boys were spurred on by a hardy bunch of diehard travelling supporters, a visit to the Fan’s Facebook Page is well worth it for the pictures and flavour of the day’s events - and likely the evening celebrations to come.
