Rhys & Tommy-Lee Join The PDF

Another two hot young Cornish prospects, Rhys Brownfield and Tommy-Lee Southworth, have joined the Cornish Pirates Player Development Foundation (PDF)

18yr old hooker Tommy-Lee from Camborne, who played mainly at prop for Redruth in National Two.Last season, was a try scorer for Truro College in the 2014 AASE Plate final at Allianz Park.

The Truro side that day included another PDF member Brad Howe and Jack Innard who is dual registered with Exeter Chiefs

Fly-half/centre Rhys Brownfield is well known to many at the Mennaye Field having come up through the ranks of the Pirate Youth Section and more recently featured for the Pirates Amateurs.

Both players were also members of last season’s Cornwall under 20s team that reached the semi-final of the County Championship.

Pirates, director of rugby Ian Davies“The PDF proved very successful last season and as the premier club in the Duchy we are duty bound to support talented Cornish youngsters by giving them the opportunity to reach their full potential.”

said Ian Davies Director of Rugby.

“Tommy-Lee and Rhys have adapted well to pre-season training and we envisage them both continuing to improve as the season goes on.”

“Their time with us will be complimented with match time with local club rugby.”

The PDF has become instrumental in developing the senior squad from within and the furthering the aim to have a majority of Cornish players in the squad.

We hope that even more will not only see the fruits of the PDF, but the rationale in the Cornish Pirates championing this route for young talent.

Fundraising for the PDF is ongoing and your contribution will be invaluable.
