A product of the Pirates' mini-junior section, where his mentors were Nick Brooks and Peter Lugg, Jack was educated at Mount's Bay School and then Truro College where he took a BTEC in Sport Performance and Excellence.

He also undertook the Advanced Apprenticeship in Sporting Excellence (AASE) programme, designed to to meet the needs of young people, aged between 16 and 18 who have the potential to achieve excellence in rugby while pursuing an education at the same time.

Jack's game developed at Truro College with support from Marek Churcher, Josh Lord, Steve Larkins and Ian Boase, and also with the Exeter Chiefs Senior Academy, guided by Robin Cowling, Ricky Pellow, Ron Gibson, Rob Baxter and Ali Hepher.

The coaches were John Fletcher, Peter Walton and Ian Peel and under their watchful eyes he scored six tries in seven matches for the side, including one in his final game at that level when England trounced Australia Schools 46-19 at Ignatious College, Sydney, in August 2011.

After played for Redruth in 2010-11, which gave him useful experience of playing at senior level, he had a spell playing in the Championship in 2011-12 whilst on loan at Plymouth Albion.

He was also a member of the England U20s squad but the suffered a long-term knee injury when playing for Exeter Chiefs in an Amlin Cup win against Cavalieri Prato in January.

Jack was on the road to recovery when he signed for the Pirates on dual-registration forms in July 2012 and looked forward to pulling on a Pirates shirt again.

Jack's dad Michael is a Newlyn fishing skipper and younger brothers Frankie and Henry play for the Pirates youth section. His mum's uncles Ivor and Vivian Heale were also gifted players who played for the club.
