Dave Ward - Hooker/ Flanker

Dave Ward began with his local club Bath and progressed through their Academy and made his senior debut in the Heineken Cup.

Despite a few Premiership games he found his chances were limited and so joined relegated Northampton where he began in the team and even scored against the Pirates at Camborne

Injuries interrupted his progress and he then moved on to Sale Sharks but again found opportunities in the Premiership few and far between. He was a key signing for Chris Stirling and was soon vying with Rob Elloway for the hooking berth.

‘Wardy’ was a real character who played his rugby as though his very life depended upon it, loved to wind up the opposition and test referees to their limits.

This was particularly the case when stealing the ball off opponents both in the tackle and on the ground - a consummate skill which he somehow developed into an art form.

He could also run and sidestep like a fly half - an occasionally erratic throw in being the only apparent chink in his armour.

He starred as a flanker in the B&I Cup win over Munster and at hooker in the Championship Finals.

He joined the Harlequins this summer and will be sorely missed by his legion of Cornish fans.
