Mark Ireland - Centre/Wing

2009/10

Another former England Schoolboy International, Mark Ireland was born in Reading and attended the famous rugby school RGS High Wycombe and later went to Brunel University.

He first came to the notice of the Pirates when playing for Newbury, but it was from a spell at Reading-based London Irish that Mark came to Cornwall – initially on a short term loan basis but then on a full time contract.

Mark was an athletic, strong running centre who could also play on the wing and was a solid tackler in defence especially when playing alongside the defensive talisman Steve Winn.

Mark Ireland - Centre/Wing

Undoubtedly a talented player but for some reason he did not carve out the openings or score the number of tries which might have been expected and thus supporters felt he never quite fulfilled his true potential.
