Scrum-half Rob Coote, another talented young Cornish player, has joined the Cornish Pirates Player Development Foundation (PDF).
It will be a second spell with the Pirates for Cornishman Coote, having previously made two appearances as temporary cover for Gavin Cattle in 2012/13.
Ian Davies, Cornish Pirates Director of Rugby, is looking for Rob to flourish in his second spell and said:
“Rob is a returnee to the Pirates and although a little older than the usual PDF players he is a Cornish lad and we want to get as many Cornish players playing top level rugby as we can."
"A talented player who can play at scrum-half or in the outside backs he is another attack-minded performer who adds to our playing options for the coming season."
I am sure working with Gavin will see his scrum-half skills kick on and he will flourish in his second spell with us.He has scored tries at National One level and was also a key player for England Students this season so he will add to our exciting back-line options.”
Aged 22, Rob arrives at the Pirates following his degree in Maths & Engineering at Exeter University where he also featured for Exeter Chiefs.
He made his Chiefs debut against London Welsh in an LV=Cup match in November 2012, whilst also appearing for them in the A League and JP Morgan and Middlesex Sevens.
In 2014, he was a member of the GB Men’s University Sevens team that retained their World Champions status in Brazil by beating Belgium in the final.
Mike Dolan, writing for In at The Side in 2013, said “Coote has the speed, skill set and resilience to cope with the arduous physical challenge posed by professional rugby. He is certainly one that Rob Baxter and Ben Ryan should be monitoring with careful attention!”
