The Cornish Pirates policy of developing talented young players reaps more reward as Matt Bolwell and Marcus Garratt sign full time contracts for the 2015/16 season.
Lock Marcus Garratt is a product of the Cornish Pirates Player Development Foundation (PDF) and his progression underlines the success of this relatively new initiative.
Whilst his game time has been limited by injury he has demonstrated his immense potential and whilst on a brief loan spell at Bath was a try scorer in their LV cup victory against London Welsh.
Back-rower Matt Bolwell - now in his second season with the Pirates - has made a total of 24 appearances, gaining important game time in both the Greene King IPA Championship and the British & Irish Cup.
Matt progressed through the Wadebridge Camels youth and colts set-up before going on to Exeter Chiefs academy and has already represented England at Under-17 &18 levels.
“Matt and Marcus both have the ability and attitude to do develop and progress, so acquiring their signatures is a real plus for the Cornish Pirates.” said Director of Rugby, Ian Davies.
“Both lads have progressed well this season and we are very pleased to secure two young ambitious players.
Hopefully over the next few weeks others will follow suit.”
