Final Score Dirty Dog 7 Royal Navy 22
Dirty Dog Invitational 15 v Royal Navy
Wednesday 22nd April 2015
Kick Off 7:30pm
Hooker Dean Brooker, back-rower Todd Lowry and fly-half Bertie Hopkin have been selected for the SW Invitational XV to face the Royal Navy at Taunton this evening.
All three have developed their game considerably as members of the PDF - Cornish Pirates Player Development Foundation - and their selection further underlines the success of this venture in its inaugural year.
Taunton's Tony Yapp has crafted a strong selection for his ‘Dirty Dog Invitational XV’ named after Dirty Dog Rugby, the shirt sponsors for the fixture.
It will comprise players from a number of clubs, including Cornish Pirates, Exeter Chiefs, Tiverton, Exeter University, and Taunton.
Prop Kieran Davies and back-rower Joel Conlon, who have had time with the Cornish Pirates on dual registration with Exeter Chiefs, are also expected to play.
This fixture is a great test for up and coming players to have a taste of top flight rugby. It also is another test for the Royal Navy in their run up to the huge game against the Army for the Babcock Trophy held at Twickenham on the 9th May.
Last year's similar fixture at Taunton RFC saw the Invitation XV - named as the South West Barbarians -finish victorious, beating the Navy 38-17. Pirates John Stevens, Luke Jones and Conner Fullerton played in that game, with man-of-the-match Luke scoring the opening try.
James Tolman, writng on Taunton RFC’s website says: "The forecast is sunny, the bar is stocked and the gates will be open. We look forward to welcoming you all to Taunton Rugby Football Club"
