Matthew Morgan named September Greene King IPA Championship Player of the Month
Matthew Morgan has been announced as the first winner of the Greene King IPA Championship Player of the Month.
Launched this week, the Player of the Month competition recognises the standout individuals from across the competition, as a panel of key media with vast knowledge of the Championship submit their nominations to a public vote.
September's shortlist included double hat-trick scoring back-row Mark Bright (London Scottish), the leagues' top kicker Dougie Flockart (Doncaster Knights), dynamic ball-carrier Mike Williams (Worcester Warriors), triple try scorer Tommy Bell (Jersey) and winner - Welsh international Morgan.
Over 1500 Championship supporters took to englandrugby.com in under 72 hours, with 400 choosing Morgan to take the inaugural accolade.
"It's an honour to win the September of the month prize - I appreciate everybody who took the time to vote for me,” commented Morgan.
"I'm really enjoying my time at Bristol so far and playing in the Greene King IPA Championship."
With a Wales cap under his belt, Morgan joined Bristol over the summer, singing from Ospreys. In the opening four Championship rounds the 22 year-old has racked up a tally of 51 points, including one try, six penalties and nine conversions. The Reading born fly-half was named Man of the Match for his impressive debut performance against Worcester Warriors on September 7.
Williams took second place, finishing only four votes adrift of Morgan while Bell also came in close, claiming over 300 votes.
