Prop forward Christian was the first of our new player signings for the 2017/18 season, having put pen to paper in February 2017 on a two year contract.

Delighted to have signed, he said: “Having grown up in Cornwall this is a truly exciting opportunity.”

”The Cornish Pirates are recognised as an iconic team and it provides just a fantastic opportunity for me to develop my game with the support of Alan Paver and Gavin Cattle.”

Prior to joining the Pirates, Christian had been a regular performer for Bedford Blues, and was also well known in Cornwall, having first played for Launceston at the age of eight, and later for their senior team, the Cornish All Blacks, in National Two.

He was a member of the Cornwall County Championship winning side in 2015, and then spent a season playing for Plymouth Albion as a standout prop in National One.

A Championship winner again with Cornwall in 2016, he also played for England Counties.

Educated at Callington Community College from the age 11-18, Christian then studied and acquired a degree in History at the University of York. Dave Cowgill was an influential coach at ‘Uni’, as later was Graham Dawe during his time with Plymouth Albion and Cornwall.

Christian’s dad helped coach him at youth level, and his brothers James and William have also played the game. Indeed, youngest brother Williams still turns out for Tavistock.

Ahead of his move into professional rugby, Christian worked as a Business Analyst for a property firm. As for hobbies, he is a big fan of all kinds of music, and used to play the guitar, although, in his own words, he is now “very much out of practice!”
