Gus, as he is often referred to, first came to Cornwall in 2016, although not registered, he trained with the Cornish Pirates and played for Redruth where as a hard-working and gifted player he continued his rugby education.

When he signed for us in May 2017, Coach Gavin Cattle spoke with praise saying: “Angus has proven how committed he is by arriving on trial last season and showing up well. A cracking character, he did a really good job for Redruth and now has ambitions to progress further.”

“His presence will also reassure us in the ‘9’ position, as he will be looking to push both Alex Day and Mike Pope.”

A scrum-half/fly-half, Angus spent his early years in Botswana and South Africa, and first played rugby for the Pirates Club in Johannesburg.

However, it was when living in Australia that he started to make his mark in the rugby world. Indeed, he made the Western Force ‘A’ squad in 2014, played for Manawatu under 19s and Academy, and for two years also represented Western Australia under 20s and Australian under 20s Barbarians.

With such a Christian name, it is perhaps not surprising to hear that Angus was actually born in Inverness, Scotland, and holds British and Australian passports.
