Dartmoor Cycling Bronze For Hooker Tom Channon

.The Dartmoor Classic Sportive - organised by the Mid-Devon Cycling Club - is widely recognised as the most prestigious open-road cycling event in the UK.  Established in 2007, the event has grown in popularity, attracting cyclists from around the world

Given a choice of three routes, the Grande (107 miles), the Medio (67 miles) or the Piccolo (35 miles), Tom - who only took up cycling three months ago - opted for The Medio where he clocked up an impressive time of 5h 20m.

His route ran from Newton Abbot Racecourse, across Dartmoor to Princetown then via Moretonhampstead to return through the Teign Valley and along the way was accompanied by his father Rod and elder brother Ben, who are both experienced cyclists.

Speaking afterwards, Tom said “Although testing and obviously different from rugby, I found it really enjoyable and very rewarding.”

“Thanks also to Woll - Martin Woollatt match reporter & Pirates supporter who was a Silver medal winner in The Grande event - for giving me some great advice.”
