We are proud to be supporting the Rainbow Laces campaign at our home game with Rotherham on Sunday February 26, making sport everyone's game with no exceptions.
The teams will have rainbow coloured laces in their boots, whilst both captains will wear rainbow armbands, sending out a clear message that Sport Is Everyone's Game!!
The Rainbow Laces campaign complements the work that sporting establishments across the nation are doing to promote inclusion and diversity.
Currently, many LGBT (lesbian, gay, bisexual and transgender) people wish to participate in sport as players or supporters but may feel unwelcome or unsafe.
Speaking about the Pirates support for this campaign, club captain Chris Morgan said: “We know sport has the power to unite communities across Britain.
“As a club at the heart of our community, we are used to involving and supporting a wide variety of people with different needs.
“We believe that it doesn’t matter who you are, everyone should be able to play sport, so signing up to the Rainbow Laces campaign was a natural step for us.
‘It is a fun, easy and instant way to demonstrate that we are fully inclusive and that our members and supporters can be true to themselves when they are with us.”
Working with Rainbow Laces demonstrates to all, that the Cornish Pirates encourage people to stand up and say they will not accept animosity or abuse of any kind and will challenge attitudes and stereotypes about the LGBT community.
