After six years with the Cornish Pirates Francis Sanderson, our lead Strength and Conditioning Coach, is moving on to seek fresh challenges.
‘Frank’, who joined the Pirates in the summer of 2011, having previously worked for Northampton Saints, has throughout his time with the club helped make sure that all the players worked to their highest physical abilities, to meet the quite considerable demands of the modern professional game.
Speaking of Frank’s contribution to the club Coach Gavin Cattle said:"Frank has played an integral role over the past six seasons. He is very knowledgeable, professional, and well organised, which has certainly helped both Alan (Co-Coach Alan Paver) and I transition over into the coaching role.
“This season in particular we have seen the rugby and strength and conditioning programme have a very good cross-over, and this has transferred to the boys match specific fitness.
“We would like to wish Frank, his wife Kelly and daughter Lilli all the very best for the future. The foundations Frank has put in place will certainly stand us in good stead for the future.”
As for Frank himself, who has also represented Cornwall at Judo and is a Coach, he said: “I've really enjoyed my time at the Pirates. The good times have been fantastic, Championship finals and team building on the Isles of Scilly, just two of many examples. Of course there have been turbulent times too, however they have given me valuable experiences and have helped develop me both as a coach and person.
“It’s also been great meeting so many fantastic people and I feel privileged to have been a part of the Cornish Pirates/Penzance &Newlyn RFC, with its rich history and bright future.
Thanks to the staff, supporters and everyone involved, and I hope to see you all at our last home game of the season – hopefully in the play-offs!”
