Matt Evans On Canada's Summer Internationals

After meeting up at the end of May to prepare for summer internationals we headed into June for the first of Canada's 3 games.

The first game, which was against Japan in Vancouver, was a high paced affair in which we scored 4 tries to 1. However missed kicks proved costly as we lost 26-22. After re grouping the following week in Calgary we were able to put things right against Russia running in 6 tries in a 46-22 victory.

Finally into our final game vs a stacked out Italy side in Toronto, we weren't able to push through a tough set piece and well organised Italian team. The boys played their hearts out but set piece and discipline cost us in a very narrow loss 20-18.

Overall the tour was a tough one but some great experience was gained by a young and inexperienced squad.

It was an honour to represent Canada again and I will be looking to have a good season back here with the Pirates and hopefully earn another selection for the November internationals.

For now it's time to get my head down and stuck into pre-season as I know the team and staff have been working hard since June here at the club and I'm excited to be back training with the boys.

Pirates honour.
