Alex O'Meara - WingAlex joined the Cornish Pirates Player Development Foundation in June 2015

He likes to play expansive rugby and has played 7s for England IPF.

He has also featured for The Wailers in all the GB Sevens tournaments in 2015, besides featuring for Hartpury who won last year's BUCS 7s Championship

At the age of 19, after playing for the Irish Exiles and a summer spent training and playing for Connacht in Galway, he gained his first international cap for Ireland under 20s.

His next international honours were with England Students towards the end of the 2014/2015 season, where he came to the notice of Director of Rugby Ian Davies, Assistant Coach for the students.

After his first season with the Pirates that saw him score six tries in 10 appearances, he gained a full contract for 2016/17 and will now focus on further development and more game time to realise his obvious potential.

Alex mainly played football as a youngster and it was not until the age of 16 whilst at Lord Wandsworth College in Hampshire that he found a serious passion for rugby.

His first taste of club rugby was with Camberley RFC where former ‘Pirate’ Rhodri McAtee - one of Alex’s sporting influences - played in his youth.

Appreciating the support of many people who have been influential in enabling him to progress in rugby, Alex highlights the efforts of his parents, plus friends and family in general.
