Ospreys Premiership Select v Cornish Pirates Saturday 14th January 2017
British & Irish Cup Rd 5

Kick Off 14:30

No. 8 Dan Lee leads the team for the first time in this inaugural visit to Maesteg, with PDF player Luke Chapman selected to play his first senior match for the Pirates, whilst lock Josh Caulfield makes a welcome return from injury

Judging by a flurry of posts on social media, a healthy contingent of Pirates fans will be making the trip from Cornwall along with the exiles from their outposts around the UK - Bridgend & Maesteg pubs look likely to be busy.

Speaking ahead of this all Celtic clash, Co-Coach Gavin Cattle said:
“ It is always difficult to gauge a game against opposition such as Saturday’s due to the requirements of their first team and who they have available.

What we do know for certain however, is that playing in the shop window for their region they have had two good wins against Connacht Eagles.”

“As for ourselves, we have made a few changes and have rested certain players in an effort to keep the squad fresh.

This gives an opportunity for a number of those selected to put their hands up, not just for Cup selection but also the Championship.”

“Whilst it’s important to play for a good result, we’re not counting our chickens and know we’ll have to perform, as if there is complacency in any area then we’ll be punished.”
