A cracking game is in store tomorrow when we welcome unbeaten league leaders London Irish for their first ever visit to the Mennaye in Penzance.

The atmosphere generated by a big crowd will undoubtedly be further charged by the presence of the inimitable Falmouth Marine Band

Cornish Pirates’ joint coach Alan Paver is expecting a real challenge against a London Irish team that will likely include former popular ‘Pirate’ Blair Cowan in its ranks.

Commenting ahead of the game Alan has said: “There is excitement in the air building up to this contest. Supporters from both sides are looking forward to it and the Mennaye Field should provide a cracking atmosphere.

“We know it’s going to be a challenge on Saturday, so we need to stick to task, strive to play at our highest standard, and learn from the experience of playing a team the calibre of London Irish.”

The fixture is also a special occasion for club captain Chris Morgan, who makes his 200th appearance for the Cornish Pirates.

Speaking about Chris, Joint coach Alan Paver said: “Congratulations to Chris on reaching a magnificent milestone. He is a special guy, who gives so much of himself, and is always the first to stand up when the going gets tough.

Rugby Scribe Steve Tomlin describes him as: “The ‘Mr. Reliable’ of the Cornish Pirates, he almost never has a poor game and as a result must be one of the most valuable team players to pull on the Pirate shirt in the past decade”
