VIDEO Preview With Max Bodilly & Tom Duncan

The Black & White National flags of Cornwall will be out in force at the Mennaye on Sunday for this eagerly awaited St Piran’s Day Derby with Jersey Reds.

This is the first of two back to back encounters with the Reds as on Friday 10th the Pirates travel to Jersey for the quarter-final of the British & Irish Cup.

4 points separate the two teams with 5th place Pirates just 1 place ahead of Jersey in the table. The Pirates narrowly lost 27-24 away to the Reds in November, and yet another tight contest is expected. Both teams have also taken the scalp of Yorkshire Carnegie in the past two weeks – the Pirates winning 42-27 away and Jersey Reds emerging 24-19 victors at home.

Speaking about the game Cornish Pirates coach Gavin Cattle said: “Both teams have had their injury problems this season but have done very well.”

Our resources have certainly been a bit thin, however the team’s performances have displayed immense character, and a willingness to work for each other”

“This weekend, it’ll be a case of strapping up and cracking on for another exciting challenge, involving two competitive sides making a push for the top four.”
