The Pirates take to the skies this weekend as they head into unknown territory to face Connacht Eagles at the Galway Sports Ground in the first round of the British & Irish Cup.
The Pirates know very little about the Eagles or what to expect from them, other than the senior Connacht side play Toulouse in the Champions Cup the previous day, also at the Galway Sports Ground.
Pirates Coach Gavin Cattle said: “As we know nothing about the opposition, this week we will focus fully on ourselves and put that vision into our rugby style, both in attack and defence.
“The trophy is important but it’s also about us having pride to put on the shirt, and giving players an opportunity to put their hands up for places, to help us build and progress.”
“The Cup is a great competition and a change of scenery, but in terms of going about our business nothing changes for us.”
There are a number of changes from the side that faced Yorkshire Carnegie last time out.
Matt Evans moves to full-back where there is a fresh wing pairing in Jack Arnott and Alex O’Meara, Tom Hendrickson partners Alex Dancer in the centre, whilst Mike Pope slots in at scrum-half.
In the pack Tom Channon returns at hooker, whilst props Paul Andrew and Tyler Gendall, lock Edd Pascoe and flanker Sam Simmonds - who all made appearances off the bench last weekend - have starting roles.
Matt Bolwell makes his first appearance of the season in the back-row having made a welcome return to full fitness and also celebrates his 50th appearnce for the Pirates.
