Greene King IPA Championship Rd 18
Mennaye Field Penzance
There can be no complaints from the Cornish Pirates camp in the aftermath of fellow play off hopefuls, Jersey’s first ever success at the Mennaye Field. This despite a late surge from the hosts - as they sought to cancel out McCarthy's 51st minute touchdown, that finally broke the deadlock in a contest in which, a roof rattling cross wind and heavy pitch mainly dominated.
Harvey Biljon's side thus took the spoils - and perhaps take the initiative back to St. Peter for next Friday evening's B & I Cup Quarter Final clash. But they will have to settle for still occupying 6th spot in the Championship table still - as Moyle's hope giving try ten minutes from the end denied them the added bonus of leap-frogging the Cornishmen in the standings.
On a scale of 1-10 in terms of a spectacle however – this afternoon's offering would trouble any judges as little as the match's scorers at either end of the ground. Pave's had it about right post match by describing it as....”....awful“. But it was at least intriguing and burgeoning with tension for the committed fan of either side.
