A number of players were at the Roller Rink Pool, Redruth on Saturday along with Community Engagement Manager Sam Teasdale, to join in the fun of a deserved break for young carers from this season’s chosen charity: Kernow Young Carers.
Kernow Young Carers is an Action for Children project and is committed to working with children and young people to make the caring role a more positive experience by offering support, information and guidance, activities and trips, short breaks, school groups, training and educational sessions and local young carers forums.
Players Bar Bartlett, Matt Bolwell and Alex Dancer were able to learn more about Kernow Young Carers, who currently support over 850 young carers in Cornwall.
Speaking after the evening out, Sam Teasdale said: “At the start of this season our players felt that Kernow Young Carers was a very worthwhile charity to support, and they’ve been keen to learn more about the important work that our Cornish young carers provide within the community.”
“Meeting and seeing the young carers enjoying themselves was great, and the Roller Rink provided an ideal venue. However, I do need a little more practice on roller skates!”
Rosemary Foster, Children’s Services Manager for Kernow Young Carers Action for Children, thanked Sam and the players, saying: “A big thank you to the Pirates for making the effort to attend, it was a great session, with an opportunity for everyone to chat and also a great motivational discussion for a couple of young carers from the players!”
