Here at the Cornish Pirates we are delighted to hear news of the achievements of Michaella Roberts, a past participant.in our Community Programme activities.
England U20's prop Michaella Roberts got her taste for rugby after attending a session we held at Rosemellin School a few years ago.
Michaella’s mother Rebecca told us that having enjoyed the session so much she joined Camborne RFC and played there for 3 seasons.
When she turned 12 she had to find a girls team and joined Newquay Queen Bee in their U 15's team, she got into the Cornwall U15's girls team and then on to the SW divisional team under the guidance of Kevin Moggridge.
When it came time to move up to U18's Michaella left Newquay and returned to Camborne to help start up a girls team there. She got into the Cornwall and SW Divisional teams again and then got selected for the England TDG group, after being there for 6 months she broke her ankle and had to miss the rest of the season.
The 2015 season started very slowly, having her ankle plated and with seven screws, Michaella took part in no sport for 6 months but with help from physio's she started to regain her fitness, going onto captain the Cornwall u18's and getting back into the SW divisional team.
She was then invited to join the England U18Talent Development Group (TDG) and was selected to play Canada in April.
In May 2016 she was put forward to trial for England U20's and was selected for the squad and had her first camp this June.
Michaella now plays her club rugby at Plymouth Albion Ladies, playing two matches at the end of last season winning and scoring in both she is looking forward to forthcoming season.
