Kernow Young Carers - End Of Season Update

Thursday 4th May 2017

The players have had a very successful season supporting our chosen charity Kernow Young Carers, a service that supports over 850 young carers in Cornwall.

Support and fundraising for KYC has been on-going since September when the charity shared in the proceeds of a Charity Bike Ride from Bissoe to the Mennaye Field and back.

Included among the  riders were Cornish Pirates’ Coaches Alan Paver and Gavin Cattle, Team Manager Chris ‘Jan’ Rendall (pictured) and match reporter Martin ‘Woll’ Woollatt who presented a cheque for £302-50 at the match with Ealing Trailfinders

Three match day collections have raised a further £1,384-87, with the final one held when the Pirates played Bedford Blues in the last game of the season.

The final sum amounted to £1,687-37, which representative Rosemary Foster said was “an amazing amount”.

“Your support has been truly appreciated during the past year the whole process has been a great experience for us, and the young carers and their families.

“A big thank-you to everyone involved - it really has made a difference!”

As the season has progressed the Pirates have gained a growing understanding of the vitally important work undertaken by so many admirable young people.

Later in December, Chris Morgan, Jake Parker, Tom Duncan, and Jack Andrew along with Community Manager Sam Teasdale were at the Kernow Young Carers carol concert at Truro Methodist Church. The concert was a great way to get into the Christmas spirit and to interact with the young carers
